Rogério Sarmento Leite, MD, PhD

Dr. Rogério Sarmento Leite is an interventional cardiologist with experience in both structural and acquired heart diseases. He earned his medical degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, followed by a Master’s and PhD in Health Sciences (Cardiology) from the Institute of Cardiology of Rio Grande do Sul. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Texas Heart Institute.

Dr. Sarmento Leite has served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine/Cardiology at the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre (UFCSPA). He is also a Permanent Professor in the Graduate Program in Health Sciences at the Institute of Cardiology of Rio Grande do Sul/University Foundation of Cardiology (IC/FUC).

He currently practices as an interventional cardiologist at both Hospital Moinhos de Vento and the Institute of Cardiology of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil, providing comprehensive clinical and procedural care.

Dr. Sarmento Leite has played a key role in advancing the fields of extra-cardiac interventions, catheter-based cell therapy, and coronary interventions. His primary area of interest is structural heart disease, with a special focus on transcatheter valve therapies, in which he is regarded as a national leader.

He is a member of the Academy of Medicine of Rio Grande do Sul, serves on the Board of Directors at IC/FUC, and acts as a preceptor for both residency and undergraduate medical training. He is the current President of the Brazilian Society of Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology (SBHCI).

Internationally, he is an active member of the Latin American Society of Interventional Cardiology (SOLACI) and Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT).
